While food system narratives are often siloed — peasant and Indigenous communities fighting for food sovereignty represent the intersection of climate, politics, economy, gender, justice, health, and environment. Their experience offers a unique vantage point for journalists to engage in holistic reporting and storytelling.

Too often, the struggles of peasant farmers around the world are kept in the dark. Without visibility, the exploitation they face at the hands of corporations and governments continues unchallenged. It’s time for that to change. Peasant groups from around the world are standing up and demanding that their stories be heard. It’s time to listen.

The Peasant Press Forum is an opportunity for international media organizations and peasant organizations to connect and bring those stories to light. This virtual event featured groups from Asia, Africa and Latin America who are on the frontlines of the global food sovereignty movement.

Since then, farmers and farmworkers across India have taken to the country’s capital, staging the largest protest in human history. By prioritizing corporations over people and the planet, many believe these laws further environmental degradation and economic oppression, deepening an already stark wealth disparity. These protests are as much about land rights as they are about human rights, as dissent continues to be silenced.
